One Piece Shower Flange/Wall Crack

I have a one piece tub and shower. I believe it is made of fiberglass. Twice now, a crack in the wall all the way around the flange has opened up. It has been suggested that this happens because the installer did not put the sheetrock over the flange, but put the unit in with the flange flush. Last time I fixed the crack I ran deck screws through the flange into the studs, but this didn't help...it's cracked again.

Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe I'd just put in some decorative tile/trim over the crack to cover it. Thanks for any input!

If the sheetrock was not brought over the flange to cover it, I would do as you said and add a trim board around the edges to cover the seam. That is what a landlord of mine had done once and it came out quite nice.
